The New York City government is the single largest consumer of tropical hardwoods in North America. NYC uses this wood for tens of thousands of park benches, subway track ties, 12.5 miles of boardwalks, the decking of South Street Seaport, the pilings and bumpers of the Staten Island Ferry Terminals and the Brooklyn Bridge promenade, as well as many other locations, including the acclaimed Highline Park.
The use of these woods not only destroys the environment and wildlife—it funds murderous cartels, military juntas, forced labor and land theft.
Come, take a tour of New York City's tropical rainforests.

Tim, thanks for letting people know about this unnecessary use of rainforest hardwood. I'd like to help, so I'll check out the website. Congratulations on managing to change some of the city's usage of the wood and best wishes for further success!
