I live close to West Terrace Cemetery in Adelaide - it's a fascinating and atmospheric place full of stories. My friend and colleague Denis Smith and I had a couple of hours free so we took the cameras down there and shot as much footage as we could in the fading light. I already knew I wanted to cut something to Henry Scott Holland's poem, and there are endlessly interesting contours and textures to explore in the cemetery. The video was conceived of, shot and edited within 24 hours - partly as a reaction against some other ongoing projects which are dragging. I just wanted to turn something around quickly and share it. I find exercises like this to be very useful - in downtime, it's good to get out and have fun, experiment and learn more about the craft.
