FROM THE NY POST (6/11/09):

A SHOW WITH PARIS HILTON, SIMON REX, JAMIE PRESLEY & LANCE BASS -- YES PLEASE
by Ryan Brockington

A TV pilot called "Rex" was posted today, and Showtime better buy it or I'm gonna kidnap someones dog as ransom (Paris, I'm talkin' to you).

The show, created by Guy Shalem who created (and directed some episodes of) Lifetime's "Lovespring International," centers around Simon Rex and his search to get back in the limelight. The brilliance of the show lives within the co-stars of the cast, and get this, Paris Hilton (as his fake girlfriend) is the best actor of all. Most people would argue that she may just be playing herself, but her comedic timing and delivery makes me want to take back every sassy quip I ever said about her.

The cast list, including a gut-splitting Jamie Presley and Brian Huskey, sounds like some sort of underground Hollywood fight club. Also on board is "Alias'" Victor Garber and Jill Talley, playing Rex's brilliant parents, and the streets of Los Angeles, which make up the sets the stories come to life on. This show is just another reason why reality TV is NOT the only option.

I think the moment I knew this thing wasn't a gumball of bull crap was when Lance "Not Gay" Bass (I promise that will make sense when you watch) joined the bunch and I still wanted to watch. No offense, LB, but I was sure you would take me out of it and you didn't -- major props. When he and Simon share some strange Cyrano de Bergerac setup, I just about lost my Triscuits.

Give the full 23-minute pilot a watch after the jump, and then call Showtime and tell them to get on the ball!

I'm definitely trying to spread the word. I'm someone who rarely likes comedies, so when I find one I *do* like I cling to it for dear life!

Guy et al you have taken the neurotic sensibilities of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" married it with the hip/happening Hollywood insider-dom of "Entourage" to produce a fresh, fabulous and funny show worthy of prime-time! Congrats to all involved - I loved it and will spread the word! I can't wait to see the next episode!
    Rex Rocks!

    Dear Guy, Rob, Simon:
First of all, A+++++! M. Schulman (above) has an excellent point about both shows, but that's where the comparison ends. I love the frenetic feel to the piece and your cast is amazing. This could be the wonderful breakthrough that brilliantly blurs the line between wholly scripted "insider" comedies & so-called "reality" television! I realize this had to be a quick standard demo of sorts, but there were times when it was so jumpy (cuts, scene, dialogue) & rapid-fire insider my concern is whether-in this exact form- mainstream "Amurrica" could follow, or "get" it all. And they MUST! ;-) Obviously I am unknown to you, and hey, that's worked pretty well for U so far... but I've some more thoughts I'd love to share with you elsewhere (than this shamelessly long diatribe) if you'd like to hear them.
This could be huge, and I wish you all the best!!!

Very funny, kind of reminds me of an American version of Extras. The tourist photograph and Lance Bass scenes were hilarious. Didn't go much on the honky-tonk type of jingle that played every so often; I don't know if that sound really suits the show.

Simon Rex has some serious talent and deserves a break. This show is absolutely hilarious and I will be very sad if this does not get picked up!

If a show has a pilot that good..., the following episodes have to be great!

I found you guys on facebook and thought okay I'll bite , and liked it..., I also agree with m.s I think it would be a great show for HBO, Showtime or F/X.
It's a very smart show that hollywood insiders, the ohh so hip gay crowd or people on the coast would "get", and everyone one knows where they lead most of the time the rest of the country will catch on and follow.
The cast is great Simon Rex, Loved Paris Hilton, Lance Bass and the Jamie Pressley and the "PR" guy, the whole cast was great.
I will be passing this on to my friends on facebook.
Good luck and I hope to see you guys this fall.
    all the best!

Wow man, did you and Mickey had a fallout? Was it after that message I sent you on Myspace? I remember you actually replied to me with just one word "outch"... Well Iam glad that you have moved on from being Mickey's boy toy... Good luck with the pilot, kinda like "Entourage" meets "The real World" Love it, I will watch it and buy the DVD as well...

Jeffrey Wagstaff (!!) has the best lines but an awful nosejob; it belongs on a little girl. Jamie overacts but she's great. Paris actually looks like eye candy again (but what's up with the Barbie print?) Lance Bass is frankly the most relaxed actor on the set; his lines truly appear off the cuff. Simon Rex, on the other hand, does a great job of conveying the nebish-i-ness that must have granted him his well-deserved dry spell. He's totally uninteresting to me; at the risk of repitition, a complete nebish.

Not bad, not very original but Simon is great & natural, The fact that Paris friggin Hilton is in it doesnt help tho (this girl can't even play herself convincingly) ditch her and you could have a hit on your hands.
