“The photographs in this exhibition tell the United Nations story – a tale of striving and struggle across the world of peace, human rights, social progress and better living standards for all. Diverse scenes and pursuit are on display: from peacekeeping to disaster relief, from children’s health to the empowerment of women. But thread is clearly visible: the mission of the United Nations to serve the world’s people. Over the years, many photographers have devoted their talent to illustrating the Organization’s multifaceted work. Whether venturing to the frontlines of war and impoverishment, or shooting in the calmer climes of conference rooms, classrooms and clinics, these women and men have shared and believed in the power of photography to illuminate the human condition. I hope you will be moved to act on what you see, and help the United Nations to build the future we want and a better world for all.” Ban Ki-moon.
