One of my favorite foggy scenes is from October 18, 2008 as QJs 6988 and 7081 lead a 66 car freight across the Cedar River at Moscow, IA. At the time both engines cosmetically matched each other. Since then, 6988 was somewhat “Americanized” in 2011 and both have new whistles in addition to the still operational Chinese whistles.
The locomotives were on their way to Rock Island, where they would separately lead passenger trips east and west to raise money for 2008 flood victims. The weekend’s excursions and ferry moves are documented on the “Steam Specials in the Heartland” DVD.
The full story about this fantastic weekend can be found on my DVD Steam Specials in the Heartland - yardgoatimages.com/store-2#ecwid:category=360233&mode=product&product=1755538
