XTRAVAGANZA - Staging Leigh Bowery opened at KUNSTHALLE Wien. Leigh Bowery (1961-1994), who once said “I think of myself as a canvas,” was a radical fashion designer, performer, musican, artist and notorious enfant terrible. In London’s (gay) sub-culture of the 1980s he was friend and source of inspiration for numerous artists, photographers, and film makers. The show presents several of his glamorous and eccentric outfits, (fashion) photographies, films and memorabilia. He was also model in several of Lucien Freud's paintings. Leigh Bowery was born in Australia and died from AIDS in London in 1994. Curator: Angela Stief. Oct 19, 2012 - Feb 03, 2013.
