Sacrophage was our second performance piece, originally concieved for & premiered in Brighton (UK) at the White Night 2 festival on the 20th of October 2009. This video was made at a second performance in Bonn in the historic cellar of the Menoriten Cloister St. Remigius. Sacrophage is a celebratorial sacrificial offering of indigenous bacterial cultures to a bacteriophage, a microscopic organism that preys upon bacteria, by implanting it's DNA into them and thus procreating. The bacteriophage is portrayed by an object resembling a monstranze, which is a self-fabricated instrument equiped with contact mics and electromagnetic sensors, rendering the performance extremely noisy!. The sung latin texts accompanying the celebratory acts are translations of Wikipedia entries about bacteriophages composed especially for this ritual.
