This is the first film I ever directed. Oh my, how things have changed in 8 years! It is based on the first chapter of Kobo Abe's novel, The Box Man, which I was obsessed with in college. The project was shot and edited(?) during my senior year at Evergreen. The beautiful cinematography is by Shelly Van Spronsen; we used 7222 film stock and a combination of CP16s and Shelly's Aaton LTR 7 with a Cannon 11.5-138mm. The tortured soul of this film is atypical of any film student's thesis, but as I watch it today I am surprised by some of the subtle, probably unconscious, regard to theme within the framing. Nevertheless, I have matured quite a bit since this, which is kind of painful to watch after so many years.
