Wheelie Bin engages with hidden personal messages written in charcoal, an ephemeral material. Both a silent and gentle act, whilst in the background could be heard the aggressive voices of another performance. The feeling of threatening hostility bled into my performance and marked the contrast of the unspoken written word. Over the 4-hour duration of the first evening of the performance-handwritten text slowly built up in an attempt to turn the white dress black. The messages on the dress initially were clear and made visible open to all to read. As the performance proceeded the writing became more jumbled and less legible. At this point deeper inner secrets were transcribed.
On the second evening of the event I worked with white bin liners. A personal ritual was carried out which took the form of a handwritten message written on the bag, which was subsequently turned inside out and blown into. A knot tied at the top trapped the secret inside. Finally I blew onto the bag gently and so divested myself of the destructive memory as the bin liner floated away.
