As requested by a friend. This is a low light test done by changing the gain. Two tests was done - Carpark View (3x zoom) with the only lights are the one street lamp at the carpark and two garden lamps at the walking lane for the shooting view; and the second half of this video is a Candle Light test

Settings:
Manual Adjust of White Balance unless iA or Auto is used
1/25 Speed

Gain or Iris is changed:
1. From 18db to 0db - Bright but quite a bit of noise at 18db n 15db. 12db n 9db are better. 3db - camera loses focus sometimes. Noise is expected from Consumer Camera. But we can see the details n color is quite accurate. I believe zooming also reduces the light coming into the camera n thus increases the noise level.
2. Other Low Light Modes, like Color Night View n Candlelight Scene Mode. The Color Night View really brightens up the whole scene but smooths out the image. I guess it really slows down the camera speed.

One Candle Light Test, I also added a few more test at the end after the Candle Light Gain Test:
1. Using AF/AE to set exposure. It works quite well.
2. Zoom to 12x test - when it reaches 10x, the camera finds it hard to zoom clearly in the dark. (Update Correction on 20 June - The problem is not so much zooming in the dark but the object was too close to zoom 12x so the camera loses focus at 12x. I tested it in a bright room)
3. One Lux Test (or approximately). According to the definition of 1 lux - it is the capture of images 3 feet away from 1 candle light. Using the Color Night View, the camera can really captures 1 lux brightly.

Music: Stories from Emona II by Maya Filipic

Overall the camera performs well in consumer cameras of this range.

is the tungsten light color really there or is it from the cam?

Yes, the brown/reddish tint color in the carpark is really there. It comes from the carpark lights, which are orangish with some reddish tint. I guess the housing people used these lights as they are dimmer than white lights. It's not from the camera. If you look at the grass patch by the walking path at the top, the grass are green n the path is cement grey as the lights at the walking path are white. While the grass color at the bottom is reddish green due to the carpark lights.

Another clue, at 12db, there was a car head lights that shined at the carpark grass and you can see the green. So the tungsten reddish color is really there.

thanks! really great footage. I am debating on whether to get a tm300 as I often film concerts (so spotlight lighting)

cant see much if any grain in your shots - though its noit the same as watching on a HD TV

vimeo.com/4863339. This video is of a musical concert using TM300. All the consumer camcorder will have some grain or noise in low light. Sony XR520 has the least noise or grain. But Sony does not have as many Manual Adjustments Features as Pana or Canon.
