Music video that I shot for holding onto hope.

Thank you to Elliott Padilla for all the lighting setup and help with equipment and staying up with me and the band until 7AM shooting the indoor scenes.
Thanks to Joshua Caine for organizing extras, and assisting me throughout the second day of shooting. He also took some great production stills! His website is joshuacaine.com
Thank you to Henry Bruington, Jonah Clinard, and Andy Pyle for all the hard work they did carrying around heavy equipment through the sand for hours!
And thank you to all the extras who showed up to make this possible!

This is by far one of the greatest music videos I have ever seen. straight up perfection in my opinion.

Thank you so much dude! Thanks so much for coming out man! I'm glad you were able to come along and hang out! Let me know if you're ever up in San Francisco! And I'll let you know if I'm ever shooting anything worthwhile up here too!
  • Patrick Barrett plus 5 months ago
Will do! I have a bunch of friends and family up there and Sonoma always has a race going on so I'll be passing through from time to time.

  • Epic.

Love the shaky camera work and the shots that start out extremely slow and then end at normal speed.

Also, loved those quick shots of the bass string just bouncin'

By far your most ambitious work. Nicely done.
  • Patrick Lawler plus 5 months ago
haha yea I'm pretty sure the bass string shot is my favorite haha, mostly cause I'm a bass player hahaha.

but thanks man! Did you shoot the parade? I'll have some time tomorrow to send you some songs I've made and see what you think.
  • Ah dude it was canceled due to rain. It poured yesterday. They are going to reschedule so we have some time.

what equipment did you use when you shot the footage of the band?
  •
  • Jedd Goble plus 5 months ago
Great work Patrick! I especially like the shots toward the end of the silhouettes walking on the sand. Really awesome how the sun is all blown out.

Where were the outdoor scenes shot?
  • Patrick Lawler plus 5 months ago
Thank you Jedd! We shot everything in Arroyo Grande and Pismo Beach California.
  • Do you ever get permits or permission to film at these locations or are you just shooting from your hip on this stuff?

Hey man long time no talk! i got into these guys when you did their first video and i didnt know they did a video for this song!
    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! hvx200+lex correct?
if so you have completely convinced me to jump ship to the panasonic realm. if so, i'm ording my hvx200 this month then ha! amazing work man as always :)
  • Patrick Lawler plus 4 months ago
Hey man thanks for watching! And thanks for the props! I do in fact use the HVX+LEX.

But now that there are newer and better things out there I have to recommend the EX1-SGBlade setup.
  • Ryan Valdez 4 months ago
eesh! how about the hvx200 and sgblade instead?
ha the EX1 is a little steep in budget. Or are you saying better equipment as in HVX200? of course budget and what you can handle is important but in your personal opinion is the HVX a little outdated now?
  • Patrick Lawler plus 3 months ago
It's not that the HVX is outdated, it's just that the EX1 is newer and has sharper image quality and can record more footage onto a similarly priced solid-state card.

But I will always love the HVX, obviously cause I still use it every day haha

SGBlade is sweet cause it has rotating goroundglass and that's key! Much better than the Letus.

Great video! Was this all shot with only 1 camera? Any use of 35mm adapter or anything? Congrats
  • Patrick Lawler plus 2 months ago
hey thanks man! this was all shot with one HVX200 and the Letus Extreme for the beach stuff. The indoor band stuff was all stock lens
  •
  • Did you use the Twitch plugin from videocopilot to get some of those really shaky shots?
  • Patrick Lawler plus 2 months ago
No way dude, my friend Cameron Mott (the guy who directs all my short films) invented a camera move called the "hyphy shake" where you just go apeshit on the tripod handle after you lock everything down. It's a very difficult technique but I could teach you ;-)
  • Patrick Lawler plus 2 months ago
and for like one or two shots I think I used FCP's earthquake filter, cause I wanted to keyframe (ramp) the shakyness. but 99% of that is all done in camera haha
  • Wow, interesting. Yeah please do tell. Maybe even a short vid, (private so as not to clog up your sweet videos on your homepage) demonstrating...

Dude, I'm very excited. I'm finally finally finally shooting my first music video. We film the storyline stuff next saturday and then the first week of november is when we film the band. The song is cool, the band is cool, it's all coming together.
