This is seven coupled turing instabilities of various scales, from small scale to large scale, "fighting" and "co-operating" with each other. The system seems to never (at least 40 minutes at this rate) settle down into a stable state. The five fold radial symmetry is imposed by rotating the system by 1/5 five times and averaging the "morphogen" values.
