The inaugural trail from Boston to Freeport and Brunswick arrived Nov. 1, 2012 to much cheering, whistling and horn blaring. The Amtrak Downeaster will make twice-daily trips between Brunswick and Portland starting Nov. 2. Officials and politicians, including U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe and U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, rode the inaugural train and at station stops praised the numerous people behind the successful train extension.
