Looks cool, but I wonder what the risks are? Is it possible to reinstall original firmware after your firmware is installed?

Yeah lol. The sound is only coming out of one speaker...

    probably an editing thing.
  • Mike Hedge plus 2 years ago
    ok gotcha.

seriously love that you have created this.... seems like Canon should just open source their 5D software

The video was supposed to be in mono since I was using only one mic. I may re-encode and re-upload it to fix that.

I have a sound devices 302 mixer with good preamps. Can I assume this will also work with the mod firmware? What does it do to the Canon firmware, regarding the other features that are not addressed by this new firmware?

Trammell, would you mind doing a quick example of just a bare mic going into the 5D with your firmware? I use the Zoom H4 so I imagine that will put out some good clean sound but I would like to see what a bare mic would sound like.

Guys, does installing Trammel's firmware break the warranty? Or my warranty is already void because I've upgraded to 1.1.0 myself?:)

Holy Crap!!!!! You are a genius and a savior. I saw your To Do list. I vote for HDMI output (no OSD) be moved to the top.

How about 60P at 20mbs instead of 30p 40mbs? Just a request lol.
  •
  • David Newman plus 2 years ago
I'm with Sterling, HDMI output with no OSD would allow for compression free or much high quality compressed capture to be performed externally.

I wasn't in the market to buy this camera (expensive for me) but, if it had HDMI out, umm.. yup, I'd buy it. And send you some cash Mr. Hudson. Well done.

Nice and great work. But I am wondering about 24p is there a hardware limitation because it seems you could do anyhting looking at what you have done and so am surprised its not one of the firmwares features.

Great project. how can I contact you to give you some suggetion of what to improve? it is not in your to do list but I think you might like it.
  •
  • Kaixing 2 years ago
just leave it here. I think a digtial zoom, will be a good feature. this will make the 200mm lens to , for instance 600mm, while not lose any quality of the video. just using the center bit of the sensor.. pixel to pixel. It gives the same DOF for your lens (not the equivelent of cause so 200mm is still 200mm) but, people like me without supe zoom will like it!
