This short animation goes back in time to tell the story of the Toronto Port Lands and forwards to its possible future. The Port Lands are a filled-in stretch of land south-east of downtown Toronto. Although the industrial terrain is mostly neglected and almost completely abandoned by Toronto's imagination, this video highlights its long, vibrant history. Animations were researched from Toronto's archival photographs, historical records of the land, and the history of Indigenous peoples of southern Ontario, and superimposed on present day footage. The video is also a call to cherish the valuable historical memories connected to a place. As archeologists, curators and politicians have asserted, there are a multitude of historical sites buried under Toronto's waterfront that might be facing destruction as Toronto's waterfront gets "developed".
