Rice farmer Kencho left the monastery in his teens, giving up a revered position and returning to his family’s farm to help his aging father out in the fields. Now 59, he has a family of his own – but he still toils alone for hours each day in the scorching sun. None of his children are farmers; he doesn’t want them to be. All he wants is for them to lead a better life. But his dreams for his children have not yet been realised. They work humble jobs, so their disappointed father still continues farming to put food on their table.
