We are using a DK weight yarn, and it's best not using a thicker yarn than that, rather a smaller like a fingering, even if your garment is in a thicker yarn.
From RS pick up appropriate no of sts from the edge of your garment.
Since we use a DK weight and a size 7 needle, we are picking up approx 5 sts per inch. If using a fingering weight use a size 2 needle and pick up approx 7-8 sts per inch.
Firsts row (WS): k1tbl, *yo, k1tbl*, repeat *-* to end of row. Sts on needle are doubled.
2nd row (RS): knit all yo and slip the purls with yarn in front.
3rd row (WS): knit all slipped sts and slip the purls with yarn in front.
Continue like row 3 to desired width on band.
Bind off from WS by P2 tog, P2tog, slip the preceding st over as a normal bind off.
