Why would you go through the trouble of making a mini-documentary and not upload the HD version? It's like mastering a fantastic DVD-Audio disc, and then giving everyone copies of a copy of a tape, recorded from a not-close miced speakers with the fan running in the background.

    Neat video though.

I'm glad you liked the video.

I wish I could get a HD version of the film. Unfortunately, it was shot on 16mm film which has a 4:3 aspect ratio. To get a HD version, I'd have to crop everything to fit into 16:9, which would mess up the framing of most of the shots. Hopefully my next film will be in HD.

No need for HD, this could have been filmed with a Pixel Vision and been just as awesome. It's not about the "tools you use" it's your "tools upstairs" if you know what I mean.

Great doc! these people were great characters and it really made me want to learn to weld and build things with metals. The idea of playing scientist is really great subject matter. I also really like the atmosphere you created, the pacing of the edits, opening sequence etc.. It all really came together.

Thanks for the like and the comment on my reel, Patrick!

I really dug this film-- the sound design was especially fantastic. The feel of this piece reminded me a lot of Magnetic Movie (vimeo.com/1166968), one of my favorites here.

    Cheers!

  • This is pretty chill. Modern Alchemy? Crazy. So when can I start sending in my base metals for gold?

I'll talk to David/Dennis/Brady and see how they feel about starting an alchemistic smelting service. It could be huge!

Thanks Brian. When are we going to see more of your work on vimeo? Your Vegan Brothers in Iron project sounds great.

Trust men to enjoy making boys toys - take creative pleasure where you can.
Check out the Tornado 1 on You Tube and be amazed - no honestly. I'm an artist but I cut my teeth on this sort of stuff before I did first year foundation art as a teenager. I prefer everything horse drawn these days. see here: vimeo.com/4897746

Hypnotic. I really wanted to see the end result in detail but you sort of denied me that which I actually think was a good choice for what you were trying to do.

Very well done - I especially appreciated the thoughts about creativity and changing nothing into something...keep making great stuff!

Pat, I can't remember if I ever told you how much I like this film. I know I told Ben. Anyhow, don't listen to the dude complaining about HD, 16mm is a beautiful beast unto itself and you used it really well.

Thanks for watching and liking my stuff. Always a good feeling when you sign in and see that people watch.
