Cactus Gallery is proud to present Comfort Food, a new body of work by artist Douglas Alvarez. Comfort Food is an exploration into the psyche of human relationships and an infatuation with food. His new show will make one think about the meals people love in a different light and how they trigger a variety of emotional responses. Through Happiness, excess, waste and want, our desires and relationships with food become the focal point of our lives.
In Comfort Food, Mr. Alvarez has extended his techniques of viscous and glazed paint to three-dimensional sculptural reliefs. Zesty plates of Spaghetti and Pizza pop off the walls, they look so good one could reach out and taste. The paintings are infused with buzzwords, tasty treats, textural paint and a muted color palate, which are inviting and thought provoking. The subjects range from fast food advertisements, delectable donuts to spicy waitresses. Douglas Alvarez has combined all these media into an interactive installation, a domestic environment where one can savor delicious junk foods while playing video games in a comfy chair. The show Comfort Food will make you hunger for more.
