Get involved and lay the groundwork to establish a sustainable, employee-owned dressmaking business for a group of unemployed, single mothers in Southern Haiti.
In mid-2012 Pathfinder Missions recognized a need among impoverished single mothers in Haiti: the women could not afford the uniforms required for their children to attend school. So Pathfinder built a sewing center equipped with a dozen sewing machines to enable these women to make the uniforms for their children and others.
Now Rachel Rose Cost, Founder of One Dress United™ a social business initiative of Her Worth International will help these women establish a sustainable, employee-owned dressmaking business.
During Thanksgiving Week 2012, Rachel is traveling to Haiti to assess existing resources, establish local contacts, determine outstanding needs and develop a business plan that will lead to a systematic dressmaking operation.
Once dressmaking operations are established, One Dress United™ will launch an eCommerce store with just one dress for sale. When a dress is ordered, another dress will be donated – a school uniform for a child in need. All the dresses will be made by the newly created employee-owned business operating under fair trade practices.
The system created to launch One Dress United™ in Southern Haiti will be a seed that can be planted in other communities to benefit women around the world.
It all starts by stepping out in faith with a spirit of generosity.
