Ohio Bush Planes took our first stab at Aerocross, up at Graham Field last month. Since I got DQ'ed on a technicality, I went home and made my own course, and I'll be dang if i didn't win the whole thing!
Should you be unable to understand my mumbles on the video, the rules are that you have the option of a complete stop and continuing your direction of flight, OR doing a 180. The wheel cam keeps you honest.
I used a time-code generator to keep the time and nested it in a sub clip. There's got to be a better way though b/c that puppy took forever to export. If you are some sort of idiot savant and notice 30 seconds added between Cherry Orchard and Tower, it's because just as I was about to take off, I remembered the time-saving strategy of busting off at an angle to take Tower next...and had to back taxi. I cut that out of the video.
Note: Two video virgin strips are named in this episode: Teeny Tower and Skid Row.
I landed on Teeny Tower for the first time last October right around the time Terry Thompson made the world news. I will always think of that when I look at that little scary strip. It's not an everyday strip and if your tailwheel isn't clipping bush on the way in, you're not going to make it in there. Also there are large chunks of killer concrete in the weeds, so i don't recommend trying it without my direction...Skid Row is some sort of ballet act when you're bored with the straight and narrow home strip. You slide sideways through the notch in the trees and come to rest before the cattle guard. I've only pulled it off two or three times, but it sure is fun trying.
