“If you want to get into graffiti, you should pay attention to this!”

From upcoming communication designer Sebastian Thieme comes this remarkable and exciting animated short movie.
This exhilarating animation gives you a brief introduction into the fascinating urban subculture ›graffiti‹, and explains you in an incredibly simple way how to
become a professional writer yourself in no time.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Kreis is not an active writer. I created this name primarily for this video, so I don’t get into trouble with the police, annoyed vigilantes or anyone else who thinks that he just found out who painted his wall back in the days. I decided to use a fake name (which through a long research didn’t seem to be used by anyone else), because my old name is part of my past that I left behind and I did not want to reuse if for this animation. By no means I intend to displease any active writer who sees this video and thinks that Kreis is an actual writer who intends to promote himself. As the name turned out to suit me perfectly, I now use it as a new alias.

I sincerely want to apologize for any confusion or discomfort that came with this film.
  • The animation is OK, but I dont like the recommendations and instructions. I wonder how writing would look like nowadays if its activists back then "considered carefully" and spent much thought on what, how, and why to "express".

Hey Marc, I know, the animation is a bit too long and quite rough, but that’s because it was an experiment and I didn’t had much time for it. In 9 weeks I had to draw every single letter by hand, scan and vectorize it and animate it in AE. So I had far too much layers for my RAM to handle, and I couldn’t polish it at the very end. For this short amount of time I’m quite happy with the result.
As far as the story is concerned, please don’t take this too serious. It’s mainly addressed to writers and not so much outsiders. Most writers know, that this information is more of joke than a real step-by-step instruction, and they probably just smile when they see it. That was my main goal: to get a smirk on their faces.

I hope you like it anyways.

lol i love that the only crew easily readable in the quick list of dope crews happens to be 123klan. when it comes to alphabetical order, they pretty much stay at number one.
  • Klaas van Kreis 2 years ago
Actually that was one thing I wanted to change, but I didn’t had the time at the end. I would have liked it, if people could read all the names, as these crews are all great. Well, at least you can read one of those names. Better than nothing, right? ;D

Yo... I've been reading "Bomb the Suburbs" by Upski... this video is like a less introverted, less snobby outline of the culture. Not that Upski's book ain't dope or true, but this is far more accessible. Makes me feel 15 again.

    Nice work, especially the typography.
