For my third project, I looked into the future of shopping, where gaming and advertising might collide. This film looks into the scenario where you can download different apps for an augmented reality device that are sponsored by different companies with diverse interests. The "game" played in this film ("eye desatur8") is a weight-watching app sponsored by the player's health insurance company that monitors what products he is looking at and buying via eye-tracking. He gets virtual money for making healthy decisions, for example an o-mega bonus for choosing food high in omega-3, and gets docked points for considering unhealthy foods. Advertising plays a major role of course, and supermarkets encourage shoppers to explore the entire store and browse all their products by hiding power ups in different aisles, offer time bonuses for spending more time shopping, and reward you for reading adverts.
