---Credits below description of An Agreeable Sound---
"An Agreeable Sound " is a video series I am working on. The concept is how some "good" and some "bad" music from the 1980's can make people from my generation feel. A certain song can make you think of the seventh grade dance or even just driving around in the old family car with your dad. The 80's were a big chunk of our childhood and every once in a while it is nice to go back to that place.
The second my wife and I booked our trip to California I knew it was time to call Brian and start planning his episode. Over the next few months we would text ideas back and forth and talk on the phone now and then to discuss them. What I thought would happen did... we had tons of ideas and we loved every one of them. A good problem to have but we decided to pick just a few and do them right. I knew I wanted to really take advantage of San Diego and the beach as a location. Also I only wanted to shoot in the couple hours leading up to sunset which is what we did. Shooting in the actual ocean was a lot trickier than I planned for. First of all the water was cold...very cold. My crew had wetsuits to stay warm but Brian and I did not. The waves though not big were brutal and made it hard to keep a steady shot. Also I just went for it with no protection on my camera and it did get a little wet but nothing major. We spent a few hours thrift store hunting for the props I wanted and scored big with a sweet keyboard that was half off at only $2.99. Speaking of the keyboard , watching a homeless man take it out of the trash and walk away with it as water poured from it was hilarious. Like all of the episodes, we had a shit load of fun planning and shooting and being at the beach made it even better.
CAST AND CREW -
BRIAN - It was so great working with him on his episode because he and I have a lot of the same views on the creative process. Brian was all about making any vision I had happen for this shoot. He has an unmatched sense of humor and in my opinion pulled off an amazing performance.
ANDY (man on beach)- He was the first person I thought of for a cameo in Brian's episode. We actually shot a bunch of funny footage with him but most didn't fit in the flow of the episode. Or did it? Andy is one funny dude and it was great to have his help.
SARAH- It is so great to have an amazing wife that goes along with my stupid ideas and has a blast the entire time. Sarah was such a huge help with so many parts. She did some superb kite work and helped to pull off some tricky shots. Also she was in the cold ocean with a wetsuit on to be the "puppeteer" for the keyboard.
MAUREEN- She was also a huge help. Maureen was totally down for coming out into the ocean to operate the music for Brian to hear and to be my warning before getting slammed by a wave. She also was great for helping with ideas and to solve problems.
DEVIN- This was the first time I met him but he was down with helping out on the Andy stuff we shot and I appreciate that.
