Various views of polar bears engaged in bearish pursuits during the ice-free months on the barrier islands ringing the Inupiat village of Kaktovik, Alaska (population 250), in the Beaufort Sea. Shot the first week of October 2012. It's hard to know for sure whether the bears were merely curious or they wanted to eat us. One of them swam underneath the bow of the boat we were in and managed to hook his claws on the railing and start to climb aboard. My guide waved the critter off while I spun around wondering what f-stop my digital SLR was set to.
