The Title IX celebration, hosted by the ASU Alumni Association in conjunction with the Sun Devil Club and the Women & Philanthropy group of the ASU Foundation for A New American University, paid tribute to the landmark federal legislation passed in 1972 that ensured equal access to opportunity in sports and education for women and girls. A panel of VIPs impacted by Title IX spoke about its legacy, including Lyn St. James, author and pioneering professional race car driver; Charli Turner Thorne, ASU women’s basketball head coach; Sharon Harper, president and CEO of the Plaza Companies; and Sister Lynn Winsor, vice principal for activities and athletics director at Xavier College Preparatory. The panel was moderated by Paola Boivin, azcentral sports columnist.
