TOPIC:
Maranatha ~ Jesus is coming!!

Pentecost is precipitated by this Promise:

Acts 1:9-11
Waiting in upper room of Jerusalem to be empowered was connected to return of Lord.

Acts 2:38 was to prepare for return of Lord.
(vs 40 - 'save selves FROM untoward gen')

Maranatha is an Aramaic word that means “ Lord is coming” or “come, O Lord.”

TEXT:
1 Corinthians 16:22 Anathema Maranatha.

'anathema' = Judgment. You've never seen judgment of Lord, only His chastisement.

He chastens those He loves as a Father, to correct us from error of our ways that lead to ultimate death & destruction. (Rev 3:19)

Policeman may spank his children, but that's not his wrath, it's corrective chastisement.
His billy-club & gun is his wrathfully judgment = lethal force (never used on kids)

1 Thessalonians 5:9 not appointed to wrath

'anathema maranatha' is reminder that Jesus IS coming, when He does, then Judgment.

Matthew 24:44 (Lk 12:30) Be ready: for in such an hour..

NOTE parallels between Noah's day & ours:

Matthew 24:37-39

Oblivious to impending doom...

2 Peter 3:3-4 Where is promise of his coming?

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is NOT SLACK .. BUT LONGSUFFERING.. not willing any PERISH, but that all should come to REPENTANCE. (MISCALCULATED MERCY)

REPENT or PERISH

2 Peter 3:10 THIEF in night;
2 Peter 3:11 HOLY CONVERSATION and GODLINESS,
2 Peter 3:12 Looking for & HASTING unto COMING
2 Peter 3:13 LOOK for NEW heavens & NEW earth
2 Peter 3:14
LOOK for.. be DILIGENT.. wout SPOT, BLAMELESS.

2 Peter 3:17
BEWARE.. LED AWAY.. ERROR.. FALL from STEDFASTNESS

Bible concludes w this promise & admonition in last 2 verses:

Revelation 22:20 SURELY I COME QUICKLY.
(Jesus' last words=MARANATHA)
Amen. Even so, COME, Lord Jesus.
(Our last response=MARANATHA)

Revelation 22:21 grace of our Lord..

MARANATHA

Jesus FIRST promised to come back to them in SPIRIT form, later to return in BODILY form, in person:

John 14
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

26 Comforter is Holy Ghost
27 Peace I leave w you..
28 I go away & come again unto you.

Holy Ghost = Spiritual return

MARANATHA

Rapture = physical return

1 Corinthians 15:52 In a moment.. twinkling of an eye

1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 COMFORT one another w these words.

BOTH are to be COMFORTING

The early church faced much persecution, life for Christians under Roman rule wasn't easy. Romans required everyone to declare that Caesar was god. Early Christians knew there's only one God & one Lord—Jesus Christ—& in all good conscience they could not call Caesar “Lord,” so Romans looked upon them as traitors, persecuted them & put them to death.

Living under those adverse conditions, believers’ morale was lifted by hope of coming of Lord. “Maranatha!” became common greeting of oppressed believers, replacing Jewish greeting shalom (“peace”).

The followers of Jesus knew there would be no earthly, world peace because Jesus had told them so (Matthew 10:34; Luke 12:51), until Lord PERSONALLY returned. They were constantly reminding and being reminded that Lord is coming:

Luke 21:28 .. look up.. your redemption draweth nigh.

Jesus taught several parables on this same theme of watching & waiting & being prepared for His return (Matthew 25:1-13; Luke 12:35-40).

Revelation 22:12 behold, I come quickly..

Does this COMFORT you?

It should if you are Rapture ready!!

R U Rapture Ready???

Matthew 25:13
WATCH THEREFORE.. know neither day nor hour

Luke 12:40
BE READY ALSO.. cometh at hour WHEN THINK NOT

> When will YOUR Rapture be???? One taken, another left... happens all time..

Matthew 24:40-42 Two in field..
44 be ready.. hour think not.. cometh
48 ..delayeth his coming
50 shall come day.. hour not aware

Anathema MARANATHA

CLOSE: Are YOU ready?????

Day of Jesus' return is coming...

Today, believers in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ live our lives in light of knowledge that He can come at any time. Every day we should expect Him to come & every day we should long for Him to come.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 COMFORT one another w these words.

To those who are discouraged today, Maranatha!

To those who are worried today, Maranatha!

To those who are filled w anxiety over problems they are facing, Maranatha!

Our Lord is coming!

If this is not a COMFORT to you, make sure of your salvation today!!!
