3. GIR Drifting - Slow Motion Reel
Just testing some effects out. The slow motion was taken in 60i, converted to 60p and slowed by 40 - 20%. This is the best try at slow motion I have done so far, though it is very processor intensive, it came out very smooth. Im not a huge fan of lots of color grading since the camera can deliver excellent color to begin with but the coloring was done with magic bullet. All was shot handheld also, the slow motion seemed to help with that.

Taken with the Canon XH-A1 at 1080i60
Music: Bonobo - Serve Chilled

Fantastic slow motion effect and extremely clear. I really dig my Canon XH-A1 and I see you do as well. Best purchase I eve made. Great music choice, by the way.

Hey, sorry for the late reply.. Shutter speed was pretty high, i wanna say 1000-2000/s with a low aperture if my memory recalls right..

Amazing work! I've also got an Canon XH-A1 and I love it.

I'm inspired to do some slow motion footage now that I've seen what you've achieved here. Simply Stunning.

I'm also curious about your shutter speed, and other notes about camera settings :)

What software did you use for the 60i to 60p conversion and post workflow?
  • Subject Media plus 5 months ago
The shutter was pretty high and the aperture was low so I could create some depth of field.. not sure if it needs to be like that though. The shutter speed doesnt take away the fact that its still shooting at 60 frames.. so it would be neat to see what it would look like at 160 or 250 etc...

Also, the program is called JES deinterlacer, its free and you would want to convert to 720p60, hope this helps.

Thank you for the reply! I'm also curious about your capture settings/software for the original footage. Was it HDV 1440x1080i60, have you experimented with ProRes422 or AIC?
  • Subject Media plus 5 months ago
Yes, it was the HDV 1080i60 preset in FCP and the Prores format is pretty good but have not done too much with it yet.
