Luckily for me, I live near one of the most photogenic places in the world - Niagara Falls. This video is a compilation of some timelapse shots I took over three separate nights in the city.

Excellent !! One of the best.... ! What interval was a time lapse ? Water look so good ( is it 1 sec. ? )
    Thank you for sharing .
  • Matthew Wartman 2 years ago
Thanks for the comment! The wide angle shots of the falls have different intervals ranging from 2-3 seconds, while the close up shots have a 1 second interval.

Nice shooting Matthew. That's a fully automated camera is it? I mean, you set the exposure time etc and can multiple shoot?
  • Matthew Wartman 2 years ago
Thanks, the D90's automation function is limited to only 9 shots, so I used a 3rd party intervalometer called a Pclix to program the shooting intervals.
  • Elisabeth Robson 2 years ago
so this is a program you can load directly on your camera? or you hook up your camera to the computer and run it on the computer? Thanks
  • lenscraft 2 years ago
Elizabeth, it's not hard to google 'Pclix'... and that will lead you to pclix.com/
  • chris beddoe 2 years ago
I was wondering how it was done too. Great video.
  • MacLo 2 years ago
You know if for the Nikon D5000 the pclix is usable?

  • Scott Blanks 2 years ago
I love this, the music and the photography. Did you do anything to the shots in post?
  • Matthew Wartman 2 years ago
Thanks for the comment. The shot at 0:19 had the tilt-shift effect done in photoshop. Other than that, no other post work.
  • the skinny™ 2 years ago
i've seen that done on photography, but this was my first view on video. very stunning!
  • HK Connect 2 years ago
Stephen, you should check out Keith Loutit's work on tilt-shift with video - this has a similar feel - his work is on Vimeo too.
Am loving this style - great job Matthew!
  • MacLo 2 years ago
you have postprocessed every frame with photoshop for obtain the tiltshift, or have created an automatism (or a plugin) ?
  • Matthew Wartman 2 years ago
Every frame from the tilt-shift shot was post-processed with photoshop using the batch tool

Amazing! I really liked the fireworks and the driving shots. How did you shoot the footages in the car?
  • Matthew Wartman 2 years ago
Thank you. I made a rig by strapping my tripod to the roof of my car with a winch, and used a haze filter to protect the lens from bugs or other road debris.

That was amazing! Do they always light up the falls? Or was that special for the 4th of July?
  • Matthew Wartman 2 years ago
Thanks for the comment, The falls are lit up every night, and there are fireworks every friday and sunday this summer. There aren't too many places in the world where you can witness a fireworks display twice a week. I'm sure there was a special on the 4th of July, but the photos in this video were all captured in June.

never been there at night. it is so beautiful at night. I like the time lapse aspect of the video. It captures the essence of the 3 days as a 'moment'.

This should be Nikon's ad for the D90. Makes me think buying a videocam was
    not such a great idea.
