'Bring Back No. 12' is a promotional campaign that aims to promote the use of the recently restored No. 12 tram, as a functional piece of public transportation around the streets of central Wanganui. This nostalgic piece of our history could be the key to securing Wanganui as a city where locals are proud to call home, and as a must visit spot for traveling tourists. This campaign aims to achieve that goal by informing every Wanganui resident about the potential benefits of this tram, spreading from transportation to economic potential, from cultural importance to the further beautification of the central city. The benefits are extensive.

Number 12 Wanganui tram was built by the Boon Tramcar company in Christchurch, New Zealand in about 1911. The Tramways system in Wanganui was disestablished on 24th September 1950, and No. 12 was disposed of. In the early 2000's David Harre donated a semi-restored No. 12 back to Wanganui on the premise that she would run again as a functional piece of public transport. The remaining restoration was completed at the Tramshed, and initial tracks have been set running from the Tramshed, down to the P.S. Waimarie. It is now time to ensure that No. 12 goes further, and that we fulfill the promise made to David Harre, that she once again serves the people of Wanganui as a piece of public transport.
