This is the film we made for the Kendal 48hr film challenge.

It was great fun to make this, despite the time pressures, no chance to prepare a storyline in advance (if you come as an individual rather than a ready made team, on the first day of the challenge you will be put in a small team with people you meet earlier in the week on the three-day course (optional, but well worth while doing, even if only to get a bit longer chance to meet your fellow potential team-mates!).

The draw out of the hat put me with fellow Adventure Film Academy participant Gavin Shand.

The challenge runs 6pm Wed –6pm Fri:
* Wed eve is for identifying your basic story, sorting actors and nailing the script.
* Thurs shooting and
* Fri editing
* Sat Public premiere
So it's not exactly a leisurely process!

One challenge we particularly faced early on, was that our rider changed from “seriously good technical mountain biker” to “good cyclist, but not a mountain biker” at 9pm on the Wed eve! Which was a bit of a challenge for the storyline we'd originally thought of... But we're really thankful that Maddy was willing to step in at the last minute and do what she could with a mountain bike. (And I think she's actually better than she thinks she is at off-road riding!)

In redeveloping the storyline, we also discovered we needed a second actor at about 11pm on the Wed eve. Too late to ask anyone else, so one of us had to do it. It seemed to cause some amusement (particularly to Maddy) with just how many rounds of “rock, paper, scissors” had to be gone through before one of us “lost” and had to be the second actor rather than camera operator!

Thanks have to also go to Grizedale Mountain Bikes and In the Forest cafe for use of location and loan of a bike to make this.

(And hopefully with more time I'd do a better job on the storyline but even with such a short space of time, it still was fun to do!)
