Performed at the University Recital Hall (University of Lethbridge) as part of the Music at Noon series on 30 October, 2012. This work was developed during an extended residency at the Centro Mexicano para la Música y Artes Sonoras in Morelia, Mexico. Everyday of the residency, I wandered the interior yards and walkways of the ancient Casa de la Cultura on my way to the studio, passing by magnificent rooms occupied by vibrant young guitarists, tap dancers and crickets. The dweller within is a reference to both the sounds of the constantly moving occupants of the casa – sounds that I partially recreate in this composition via physical modelling synthesis – and the Hindu concept of the eternal dweller in the body, or jiva.
