This monumental installation of more than 300,000 ferrite magnets and 320 24"x36" steel plates was created by the artist Alice Hope and commissioned by the Parrish Art Museum as part the Parrish Road Show 2102
Known for her large scale works with metal and magnets, Alice Hope has arranged the steel plates in binary code and the magnets in morse code - both signalling the word "NO". The repetition of this word and the chain link fence that cordons off the work resonate with the military artifacts of this former airbase. Related to the tradition of Land Art, Hope's "Under the Radar" is intended to be experienced in situ and in view of the park's iconic radar.
