Jazz piano legend Walter Norris left the U.S. in 1977 and spent the rest of his life in Berlin, Germany. In April of 2004 he came back to the states to visit his hometown, Little Rock, Arkansas. This is when I started shooting interviews and concerts for what would eventually be my documentary about Walter. This is the first of his concerts I shot.
"The Spider's Web" was written by Aladar Pege, the great bassist who was one of Walter's piano-bass collaborators. Walter had a lot of respect for Aladar - who was and is more well-known in Europe than in the U.S. "The Spider's Web" is on Walter's album "Hues of Blues" (1995, Concord).
Thanks to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Dr. Victor Ellsworth, the Arkansas Jazz & Heritage Foundation. and Kirsten Norris.
