On an early Saturday afternoon, I cruised straight down Broadway to meet up with Eugene Owens and his band Eugene & the 1914 at guitarist Michael J's loft in downtown Long Beach. Being the first session I've recorded with a band I knew not a single member of (and Eugene being the brother of Mars Volta keyboardist Ikey Owens), I was pretty interested in what kind of characters I'd be surrounding myself with. Five minutes after arriving, though, I found out Eugene and his band (Michael J, Timmy, Alfred and JP) were just some down-to-earth dudes recording songs together - the kind that were nice enough to let me film them an hour before they played a show down the street.
