Brilliant video. The visuals are flawless.

But the edit could be tighter. The opening is too long. Have you tried opening the video at TC 00:14 and cuing the music simultaneously.

Re cutting it as above may give it a stronger more dynamic open, just a thought.

Great composition, great light, great video.
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
thanks Buki. I had a shorter opening but decided to go for the longer one

  • Philip Lemoine 7 months ago
great job.. i was lookin into getting this camera. i was also lookin at the panisonic lumix
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
thanks Philip. I am waiting to get the lumix gh1 also. pretty sure it will not be able to compete in terms of shallow depth of field and low light capacities, but it has 60p
  • Philip Lemoine 7 months ago
i dont know too much about "picture" cameras but i did notice alot of them shoot 1080 now. i was going to upgrade from my panisonic dvx to the HVX200 but its alot of$. the gh1 is like a 3rd the price and shoots full hd as well as 24fps. not only that but i can take pictures too =) but great video once again
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
the photos will be better than from a compact camera for sure but not as good as from the D90. but the video will be better :)

Typical MK standard. The way you squeeze the light in or out... makes a bigger pic than we imagine it.
    Definitely first class.

  • Lahav Levi 7 months ago
This is fantastic! enjoyed every second!

how do you get such a deep depth of field when all is in focus (close and far eg 1:44) with the 5Dmk2? I'm having difficulty with this on my 500D (canon 17-85 mm IS usm)
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
thanks Lahav, super wide and aperture 11 or 16 but you will loose sharpness caused by diffraction and it needs post sharpening
  •

Awesome work man, love that SLR, it shoots beautiful stuff! It's a shame it shoots in 30fps though, if it did 24 then it would be made haha.

Again, fantastic work on this! Loved the lighting and color on the shots, did you run any color correction?
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
thanks Sean. It does not bother me actually the 30fps, it is convertible, little more work, I did screw around with the color a bit, saturated and some grad filters. but no fundamental changes. during shooting I played with white balance to get the effect I wanted.
  • Sean Babas 7 months ago
Very cool, keep up the good work!

You know what's funny? The ONLY time I've ever heard that song lol.. was in Phantom Regiment's 2007 show

    ( youtube.com/watch?v=Qunso-iIgX4 )
That's a rehearsal btw that I just posted. People even fill the stands to see reHEARSALs lol. Anyways. I LOVED This video. And I LOVE that used paper airplanes lol. Even though I like Carolina Crown WAY better than Phantom Regiment.. I also realize that if you aren't a drum corps fan you have NO idea what I'm talking about lol. But anyways.. this was AWEsome.. whatever filters you used (if you used any.. I think you did not sure).. you used them correctly. This entire thing just feels epic.
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
thanks Adam, will check out your links

Sorry for all these comments lol. just one more that I found. This one was made by a fan. And it just visually shows performances pretty well. The music is "Say" by One Republic.

this is sooo nice. the night shots are brilliant, the whole piece is inspiring.
i want this camera. i use Canon 20D and have an arsenal of awesome canon lenses (even a fish eye) and to be able to shoot video with this DSLR would be a dream!!
you have definitely mastered it. keep up the great work. i'm so glad I found you.
  • Mike Kobal plus 7 months ago
thanks Claudia. make sure your lenses are compatible, the 5D is full frame, you need full frame lenses, the 20D has a smaller sensor and a crop factor of 1.5. the image circle is smaller then on the 5d and the lenses will not cover the sensor. you can also wait for the next 50d 60d whatever they will call it, it will surely have video.
  • Claudia Robinson 7 months ago
EXCELLENT tip!!! Hopefully the next Canon DSLR w/HD will be a little less expensive than the 5D too. (i won't hold my breath, tho!)
    Thanks, Mike

Yes. Epic is the word. That was just awesome photography, and it just makes me salivate more for the 5D II because my silly little casio ex-f1 couldn't even come close to this quality.

At first I have not understood a music choice. But then I have seen magic. Atmosphere of this event is very precisely transferred. The city has changed. Very thought over work.
