I... don't like how this turned out. I need to make something fluffy and happy to make up for it RIGHT NOW. AGH!

5D Mark II, Canon 28-135mm, tripod, dolly, fig rig, video is 100% straight from the camera, imported into Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, pre-rendered the raw files, and exported to .mpeg - I let Vimeo convert it to 24p.

Music is Christmas Steps by Mogwai. There's nothing secret at the end of the video, I just like the song.

I felt it was very symbolic of someone looking to fill the void for happiness, and going through all of the ambient motions of getting there. And the music was just icing on the cake, the dolly shots are my personal fave.

Well are you happy with it? Do you think the video would have looked the same if you had filmed it with the Ex1? You should do a side by side of EX1 and the Canon.

Just glad you guys made a video. Sure miss the days when you did regular updates but I understand you gotta make a living.

I'm definitely getting used to it. The quality feels pretty similar, and we can definitely get less noise in night shots.

    I think a 5D / EX1 video comparison is a must! Gonna get to that soon :)

BTW, now that it's summer and we have free time, Take Zer0 will be back very soon! I'm working on a redesign.

Yea but you guys never messed with the picture profiles on the EX... that is the secret to all those crazy good looking EX videos, well that and expert color correction... :)

With the profiles I could make the EX go from useless in the dark to damn near night vision. But I'm sure the canon has something like that too!

Nice to see you & Peter working together again - I also miss the regular little Take Zero videos.

I think I might set up a fundraising event here in Ireland, hopefully we can raise enough money to buy Peter a whole batch of new shirts that aren't green & white striped :D :D

HAH! XD I think both of us need some new clothes :P

This is gonna be a good summer :)

I don't really see the "symbolism" April talks about, but I sure love the shots. I think it's very well cut/edited. If nothing else, it was nice seeing a new video from you guys :)
  • Sean Duran 5 months ago
Yeah, it there really is any symbolism, it's purely coincidental :P We made this up as we went along, just for fun :)

Nice camera moves. I'd love to see your dolly setup. Perhaps you show it in one of your other videos. Ill have a look.

Nice camera moves. I'd love to learn more about your dolly and fig rig stuff.

Like @John, I liked the camera moves. The hallway shot where Peter comes just under the camera was nice.

I think you should do the 5D / EX1 video comparison. That would be pretty cool!

Wow! ....you have me thinking twice about the benefits of the mark 2 over a prosumer camcorder. Im a big fan of convenience and portability. Any disadvantages you might wanna share? I also agree that a comparison would rule! (5D / EX1 video comparison)

    Thanks man.
  • Sean Duran 4 months ago
So far, the only disadvantage is that it shoots in 30p. Though, there are plenty of workflows now.

But yeah, I absolutely recommend it. We sold our EX1 after using the Mark II. We shot an entire short film on a busy street of downtown Los Angeles. The camera is so small and discreet, you can change lenses, incredibly shallow dof.

Battery life is a little low, but we bought 2 extra batteries, so we're pretty much prepared for any type of shoot. CF cards are very cheap as well (we have 72 GB of storage now, haha).

Sounds great. I look forward to more footage and the short you guys shot.
