Ripping La Jolla surfer, RK, walks us through his absolute obsession with the dynamic planing hulls of Bob Simmons, and the multitude of designs and shapers they inspired. In hallmark Journal fashion, the history of surfing isn't an artifact; it's a base to be built upon. Kenvin brings it all current with velocity and some beautiful surfing at Windansea. While the original boards are ancient, the current versions are stunningly modern.

RK brought this movement to our attention in TSJ 17.6's "Remember the Future." surfersjournal.com/issues/752

Are you people brain dead that you have to post this incoherent rambling ? I would say that it's the most moronic surf interview i have ever seen, but it's so hard to choose between this and the Meyerhoffer interview. Truly it is insulting to the intelligence of the viewers to present this, probably too much tequila consumed for too long Scott and Steve ?

I can go into detail regarding the content, but won't bother unless asked to.

This was my favorite of the 3 pieces by Tyler Manson. I enjoyed them all...but this is one resonated with me the most. I don't surf, but I connected with the storyteller and his quiet, thoughtful portrait of an artist...simmons.

incredibly intimate & honest for a surf film. made me want to learn more about the craft.

Leave it to TSJ to impart it's storytelling insights to video rather than the same old surf videos.

Good old Roy Stewart. TSJ should do a video of him. He is truly a unique voice in the surfing world.

For those of us interested in "alternative" histories, this is a long drink of cool water in a parched landscape. I find this track of surfing history irresistibly intriguing and interesting. I regularly check Richard's blog for updates, news and new vids and pics re the mini-Simmons. He deserves our sincere thanks for being the spark plug that brought this engine back to life in it's modern iteration. Thanks too that TSJ still recognizes unique, high value quality and has expanded that into the video genre.

It's just a name dropping fest, and is otherwise devoid of information. Most of the comments on the video I have seen on the net have talked about Kenvin's kitchen, and it seems many people judge the surfboard by the 'coolness' of the interior of the house and who is publishing the video. . . but that's nothing new of course.

Every party needs a pooper thats why we invited you Roy Stewart!

Seriously though, being negative and judgmental reflects poorly on you and not on the work of Kenvin and the Journal.

Enjoy Roy Stewart's bio on his own website...

"Roy Stewart's colossal artistic personality, design genius and unflinching commitment to universal hydrodynamic principles are applied relentlessly in his quest for Pure Surfing. He has the courage to question and distill the spirit of surfing and understand it as the source of his work."

    Such humility!!!
