We - Oscar Vos, Sanne Oomen and Thomas Dieben - started an architectureal practice in the summer of 2008. A communal drive to finally put sustainability in the centre of our work, a start-up assignment to test our ideas to the maximum: a perfect start. The 14th of september, while opening the boxes with our new business cards, the Lehmann Brothers capsized, exposing a collapsing economical system.
An economical crisis was added to the already existing ecological one. denieuwegeneratie is a child of its time. In a short period, we grew up with change: cancellations, planning incertainties, frozen budgets, minimal
possibilities and a changing task for architecture. De raging weather which architecture is withstanding at this point, has also proved to be a delicious playground. New visions could and should be developed, in a search for the core of our profession. Finding new meaning, new types of clients, new methods for design, new ways towards identity in architecture and ourselves. We are slowly discovering these through building: despite an all-time low record of architectural production in The Netherlands, this year, 4 projects will be finalized, among which the Underground House.
