Village Ancients is a twenty minute short - an attempt to record the memories of the elderly inhabitants of the small village of Aragon in South Western France, known as 'les anciens du village' or village elders. They are the last witnesses of this village at its most Pagnolesque, when women washed their clothes in the river and the village had one oven for all 500 inhabitants; when Nazi soldiers stormed the village and attempted to kill ten men; when people didn't speak French but Occitan. Ultimately, as this older generation dies out, they take with them a crucial part of the village's identity and the experience of a way of life that had been unchanged for hundreds of years up to the 20th century.
