More
This artwork responds to the current size and timing of the waves off the coast of Cape Canaveral, Florida. Every hour the most current data from Buoy Station 41010,120 nautical miles east of Cape Canaveral, is downloaded. Current wave height and dominant wave period information from the downloaded buoy data is transformed into a low frequency sound wave that shakes a bowl of water sitting on top of a bass speaker. This shaking produces wave patterns in the bowl that are captured by a video camera and projected on the wall. As the waves in the ocean change size and frequency the waves in the bowl will also change creating different shapes and patterns.
41010 buoy information is available here ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=41010
