Last Sunday morning at 7am, Cpt Jim calls me and tells me I have to come down and dive the Newport Pier. Epic conditions he said. He was right, the swell models were wrong.
The best vis I have ever seen at the Pier. Life is starting to come back, after they jacketed all the piling a few years ago. Highlights: A couple of friendly sea lions, diving birds (cormorants and greebes), lots of tiny crabs and lobster, pipe fish, nudibranchs and more. Not a Highlight: A dead greebe that was tangled in fishing line hanging under the pier.
