June 21, 2009 - The US Coast Guard Cutter Spar was commissioned June 12, 1944. It is 180 feet long and 37 feet abeam. It was decommissioned February 28, 1997. In 2004 the Spar was intentionally sunk to become an artificial reef. It is located about 40 miles south of Morehead City, North Carolina.
