Season start at Aiguille du Velan. This was one of those "pre-season" trips were lots of commitment is needed to get to the summit.
We arrived at parking at Gd. St. Bernard at around 9. When looking up towards Velan it didn't look that promising at all. After couple minutes of judging we decided to give it a try. First 800 height meters was a mind game...should we go back or continue...
Finally at around 2900 meters it got sunny and we also found some good some. From there we continued full motivated towards our goal. Climbing the couloir was pretty ok and we arrived at the top around 1pm.
First steepish turns on tricky snow were committing, but after that it was good skiing down the couloir. After skiing the couloir it was just a battle with rocks. With no respect to our skis we somehow managed to ski all the way to parking..
Great season start! Thanks Dani!
