The weather radar was lighting up west of Chicago, so I decided to a do a bit of storm chasing. I drove west on Rt 38 which follows the Union Pacific Geneva sub for quite a ways. West of DeKalb, and west of Creston, I pulled up a lonely north-south road to video the approaching storm.
I video'd the storm until hail forced me to find shelter for the car under the local Casey's General Store gas canopy. After topping off the tank as a thank you, I set up shop just east of Creston to catch a westbound UP that was passing DeKalb. I hoped that it would get to me before the weather got too good and destroyed the shot that I had planned. I had some second camera going, but one of the occasional, wind-driven raindrops landed on the lens despite the lens hood. Which pretty much ruined that clip. So this is what's left.
Oftentimes trains are slow through here as they approach Global 3, just a few miles west. And that crappy horn... yikes.
