National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) astronomer Jim Condon describes the newly renovated National Science Foundation's Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) and explains its image of the radio galaxy Hercules A. This image was released on November 29, 2012 jointly with the Space Telescope Science Institute's Hubble Heritage program. (NASA's Hubble Space Telescope imaged the same part of the sky in visible light, showing the elliptical galaxy that is the source of the jets visible only in radio wavelengths.) The image release may be viewed at nrao.edu/pr/2012/herca/.
