We kicked off our Independence Day Weekend by driving to Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. There we took a ride on a steam train, had a picnic, enjoyed a classic carousel, and fed some farm animals.

The day was topped off with a trip to one of America's Best Ice Cream Shops - Ici. Malena had chocolate, Melissa ordered sesame ginger, and I enjoyed a scoop of earl grey.

This video was shot entirely on a iPhone and edited in Premiere CS4 with no color correction.

Great short Joe. Sounds (and looks) like an excellent day! What's the music?
  • Clan McCloud plus 6 months ago
Excellent indeed. Hope you had a great 4th as well. The song is by 'The Weepies' and is titled 'The World Spins Madly On'.

How about that there iPhone video? Not bad, eh?

    Yeah, color me impressed!

great stuff - really nice feel and something about shooting it on the iPhone made it feel even more personal - i know that sounds weird but for me, it did.....
  • Clan McCloud plus 6 months ago
I tend to agree. There's something about the rough-around-the-edges quality of a 'mobile' video that makes it seem more personal than my typical HD stuff. Glad you enjoyed it, Dan. Hope you had a great 4th.

Good point Dan. It just has a feel to it that makes you more forgiving of any blemishes.
  • Clan McCloud plus 6 months ago
Yeah... like the faults and blemishes actually add to its charm.

    speechless? ;-)

lol, Sorry. Recently my Mac has been VERY slow and I'm not sure why. It could be that I only have 30 GB of free space left? ACK. I'm trying to get a second external hard drive, but I'm hesitant- trying to find the best reliable, and best price for a large amount of space.
Anyway, here was my original comment:

    (iPhone jealousy) :)

First off- I love this song. The Weepies are one of my many favorite bands!
and I loved the video- I like the way you see the world. (hope that doesn't sound too weird, lol.) but you edit the way I would have imagined editing it.

I totaly agree, Rebecca. Weepies are terrific. Deb Talon (lead singer) has a brilliant solo album called A Bird Flies Out that is brilliant and highly recommended also.

Only 30GB left. Ouch! I recently purchased a 1TB external drive from Fry's for about $100 just so I could offload and archive old video files.

Thanks for the reply. I think your 'the way you see the world' comment was a great compliment (and not weird at all.) :-)

This has a nice natural feel to this. I guess you weren't the only ones with the idea of getting ice cream that day. What a line!

Shooting on a phone is quite different. There's a feeling you get when you can just whip out a device and start shooting in seconds with no set-up.

As for Ici... there's a line like that from when they open the doors to when they close them. :-)

Excellent quality from the iphone. Maybe a contender for Mr Bloom's iphone 3GS competition?
  • Clan McCloud plus 6 months ago
Thanks so much for such a great compliment. I forwarded this on to Mr. Bloom. He liked it but said only narrative films qualify.

Pah! What a spoil sport! :o)
  • Clan McCloud plus 6 months ago
Ah well. It is what it is. I'll hopefully be able to put together something else using the iPhone to enter into his competition.

wow man on an iphone?! Nice!
  • Clan McCloud plus 6 months ago
Yeah, I was really surprised with the quality. With my phone always in my pocket, it's nice to know that I've got a videocam at my disposal any moment I have urge to shoot.

Thanks for the thumbs, Kev. Coming from you, I can only assume they've been severed.

I wanted to make a typically loco mofo type of sarcastic comment but this is really impressive, Joe.

I appreciate the restraint it must have taken you to refrain from spewing hurtful words my way.

    P.S.
Go upgrade your 1st Gen, loser!

Your videos do a great job telling a story. You have an eye for getting the right shots...learning from you! Thanks for sharing.
  • Clan McCloud plus 5 months ago
Cheryl, you're much too kind! It's hard for me to accept that a person could watch one of my videos and actually learn something! Hahaha.
