Initially the focus of this project was the photo treasury of Pedro E. Guerrero (1917-2012), its artistic and historic importance. Indeed, among others, Guerrero documented the lives and work of three of the 20th Century’s greatest artists: architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Alexander Calder, creator of the mobile, and sculptor Louise Nevelson. His 60-year archive IS the backbone of the film, but the story I found that I really wanted to tell celebrates the rich and artful life of a witty, generous, humble and unassuming gentleman. His personal story makes a contribution to overcoming stereotypes, segregation and societal obstacles, and celebrates a heritage that transcends geographic, social and economic boundaries.
