Time lapse of a 350 kilometre drive on the Stuart Highway as part of the Triple J/ ABC Open Road trip Relay around Australia in 2012.
This section goes from the wharf in Darwin CBD to Katherine following the Stuart Highway, and on to Nitmiluk NP (Katherine Gorge). A short stop at Haynes Creek servo, Pine Creek lookout, then main street Pine Creek for a cuppa. South of Pine Creek a 44 km return detour to Umbrawarra Gorge over dirt road, crossing a few bits of water. Back to the Stuart Highway and continuing to Katherine. The cloud formations are typical of those approaching the wet season. Trip done on 30 November 2012.
There are fire trucks and ambulances overtaking me in Darwin, few stops for road work, I'm passing a house on a truck, a road train and just before Katherine the skies are ultra-dark, while the sun is shining on the road...Then it starts raining. Relief from the almost 40 degree heat! The time lapse ends at the campgrounds of Nitmiluk NP (Katherine Gorge), 29 kilometres east of Katherine NT, Australia.
