This year the fireworks moved crosstown to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the exploration of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson. Shot from Hoboken, NJ, it was spectacular. For tech info, please visit my blog, mikekobal.com/blog/?p=179

:D i've seen a few of your videos from a blog, and i believe it was you who used the lens babys that i was fascinated with from one of your videos, which you posted on 'videoforum.co.uk' (i think), well.. great videos man.. i think i'm gonna go with the d90, as i mainly prefer photography.. can't wait to shoot video on it too though :)
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 years ago
yup, that was me. the D90 is great, if photography is your priority -definitely D90, or wait for the D300s, around the corner they say.
  • Patrick Binder 2 years ago
Why the D90 over the 5DMK2 for stills? I love my 5D and 5DMK2 for photography. Great in low-light...
  • Bhavik Patel 2 years ago
hehe, believe me, i'd love the 5dmk2, but still studying, many loans to pay back, lol.

i've been shooting for just over a year now, with a d40. but its way too limiting. i think the logical step forward would be nikon series (as i have some sweet lenses).

maybe i should just keep saving, and just sell my nikon stuff and by that time, the 5dmk2 might be a bit lower in price?

  • Thanx for your beautiful videos, man! I´ve just watched all of them in your blog and I certeinly enjoyed and learned a lot.
I´m writting a long-feature script set in Cuba and planning to shoot it with a couple of MarkII... watcha think? too much for MarkII?
In any case I´m definatively using some lensbaby shots (thanx again to you!) It´ll be a boxer´s life so it won´t be difficult to justify its use.
I owe you a big one here...
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 years ago
ha, thanks and good luck. the lensbaby will come in handy for all the blurrred memories.

Beautiful frame Mike! Did you reframe/crop? Always hard to set a frame for nocturnal vista/fireworks before they even happen. The deep inky blacks are lush.
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 years ago
Thanks Jan. it went on for about 20min, I did not know exactly where it will happen, re-framed a few times during shooting but no cropping in post.

This is great. I wish NBC had done such a good job!

BTW, have you given up on the D90 for video?
  • Mike Kobal plus 2 years ago
Thanks Farrell! haha, I wouldn't know since I don't have a TV. no, still using it, but of course not as much anymore. Nikon really has to give us a firmware upgrade for manual video.
